Ben Pearson has quietly made a name for himself at League 1 side Barnsley, contributing to the side’s steady league position of 9th. However, Manchester United fans will know all about Pearson and have high hopes for him to make a big impact at the club in the future. Pearson, named United’s Young Player of the Year in 2013, holds all the attributes to become a top defensive midfielder as he is composed and intelligent on the ball and robust, competitive yet disciplined off it.

Many United fans have linked young Pearson to the style of Michael Carrick, a huge compliment and a testament to the youngsters range of passing which allows him to dictate games. Pearson also has an impressive, albeit surprising, turn of pace which helps him gain possession, not just maintain it.

With Carrick pushing on and United lacking a real centre midfield enforcer since the departure of Roy Keane, Pearson may be the answer they have been looking for. Check out this impressive 70 yard run and goal by the young man for Barnsley against Port Vale.
