England begin the defence of their Under 17 European Championship on Thursday against Italy, a challenge manager John Peacock is relishing.
Speaking to the FA, Peacock said “It is my favourite time of year. It’s a challenge for all of us. As coaches, as players, as staff, we all look forward to a challenge and I think it will be definitely an interesting tournament. There are some good teams here, but we’ve got a lot to look forward to,”
Peacock is no stranger to sucess in the tournament having won it twice and reached an additional final and he maintains a good start is key.
“It’s critical – that’s a strong word but it’s important to get something on the board in your first game. There’s an element of leeway if it doesn’t happen as it’s two teams that progress, but you need to put yourself in a good place.”
