Newcastle’s Callum Roberts Wins U21 Premier League Player of the Month Award

Leicester City v Newcastle United - FA Cup Third RoundNewcastle United’s Callum Roberts has been named the Barclays Under 21 Premier League Player of the Month for January.

The 18-year-old winger featured in three matches in January, scoring two goals for the U21 Premier League Division 2 side. Roberts scored twice in a 4-2 win over West Brom including a fine solo effort for his second goal.

The Newcastle academy graduate was Newcastle’s biggest threat in a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa and Roberts was unlucky to be on the losing side as he shone in a 3-1 defeat against Division 2 table toppers Derby County.

As well as impressive U21 Premier League performances, Roberts also scored in Newcastle’s dramatic 4-3 U21 Premier League Cup exit against Everton in January.

Roberts has already made his first-team debut for the St. James’ Park outfit, coming on as a second half substitute in a 1-0 FA Cup loss against Leicester City back in January 2015 as a 17-year-old.
