England U17’s Set For Elite Euro Qualifying Round On Home Turf

u17s-netherlands-lineupEngland U17’s will be hosting the UEFA Elite Qualifying Round as they fight for a spot at this summer’s Euro Finals.

The young Lions will face Finland, Turkey and Ukraine from March 24-29 at the home of League One leaders Burton Albion, Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium ground and non-league Leek Town’s Harrison Park.

Steve Cooper’s side enter the tournament knowing finishing top of the four-team group will see them progress to the Finals in Azerbaijan in May. A second-place finish could also be good enough depending on how the other qualifying groups progress next month.

Boss Cooper said: “To host the Elite round on home turf is always exciting and to get round the country and give young England fans the opportunity to see some of our young players on home soil is really important.

“This year it falls during the Easter holidays, and hopefully the local fans can come out and support the team.”

England U17s will be hoping to improve on last month’s showing at the Algarve tournament where they finished without a win after drawing against Portugal and Germany and then slipping to 2-0 defeat against the Dutch.

Cooper added:” The recent Algarve tournament gave the players the chance to play against some top opposition and we’re really looking forward to what will be three important games for us.”

Tickets for all of England games are now on sale and the rest of the group matches will be played at St. Georges Park and at Harrison Park.
