The 16-year-old joins Paul Clement’s side on a three-and-a-half year professional deal. Thomas has been in impressive form for the Cheltenham Town academy this season, scoring 19 goals. He also made his sole senior appearance for the Robins in December.
Thomas tweeted:” Buzzing to have signed for Derby, new chapter begins now”
His form attracted several Premier League sides including Southampton, and it even earned the young forward a trial at Portugese giants Benefica last year.
Thomas is one of four youngsters who have joined the Rams today, with 17-year-old Lewis Walker joining from Ilkeston FC as well as Swindon Town pair Jayden Bogle and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson.
Walker joins an ever growing list of players at Ilkeston FC that have gone up to the professional ranks such as Che Adams ( Sheffield United) Ashley Hunter and Akil Wright (both Fleetwood Town) and more recently Rhys Dolan who joined League One side Barnsley. Walker is the youngster brother of Nottingham Forest front-man Tyler and their father is former England defender Des Walker.
